not liking people today

It seems like everyone is irritating me today. I am trying not to show it, but I just wanna go home. People who I've been talking to at work only have bad things to say (mostly "Here's one more thing for you to do because I don't want to do it."). And even people who aren't talking to me are being annoying. I overheard a manager say to one of his subordinates that he should check with him before he prints anything. Apparently, he thinks PRINTING is something worthy of micro-management. The guy sighed in frustration once the manager had left, and I FELT HIS PAIN!!

I swear, this job is getting to me. My gray hairs are OUT OF CONTROL!

I did, however, have a very nice weekend. Despite having to go into work on Friday, my day off, and not being able to complete either of the two things I went in specifically to do, the rest of the weekend was pretty fab. Some friends called me up on Saturday and we went out to see Superbad, which was hilarious! Then I went to a b-day party for a work friend. It was nice to catch up with people I hadn't seen in a while, and I learned that a friend had just gotten engaged!! Then on Sunday I got a call from another friend and we went to see the movie Once, which was fantastic! I need to buy that music, like NOW!! And then I went to some friends' apartment for a home cooked early birthday dinner for myself, which was also wonderful. At the end of the night, I totally kicked their butts playing the Scene-It Friends edition! Yeah!!

So it was a good weekend. Maybe I'm just bitter that it's Monday.

a good weekend

The good thing about where I work is that we can opt to work longer hours during the summer, and get every other Friday off. This past weekend was one of those three-days and it was pretty good. Though I didn't accomplish nearly as much as I wanted in the "chores" and "errands" departments, I managed to get out of the house and have a little fun. Friday, I went grocery shopping - wait, did I just follow a sentence about fun with one about grocery shopping? Didn't mean to do that. :) But I did want to mention the groceries, the one productive thing I did all weekend, just so nobody thought I was a total sloth. Anyhoo, that was Friday. Saturday, I went out with a couple friends and saw the new Harry Potter movie!!! I was so damn excited about this thing, nothing could bring me down. Not even the snafu with theater location, the endless traffic, and the fact that we had to go to a later show than planned. It still rocked! I am SUCH a Potter-maniac, and I am PSYCHED for next Saturday when the final book comes out. I am also really sad, though, because, sniff, this means it's the END!! No more! Boo hoo. :( But right now, the anticipation is killing me, and that is totally the best part. :) Then, on Sunday, I went with a friend to the Gogol Bordello show at the Vic, which also rocked! Those guys are so completely insane and fun, that even though I was confined** to a chair next to my be-crutched (Is that a word??) friend - long story - I still felt like I had bounced and flailed along with all my fellow concert patrons. Oh, I also got my back spit on, my hand kissed, and my shoulder bitten. Yeah, it was THAT kind of show. ;) Totally fun. And bouncy.

And as a little update to my previous post, after a bit of research, I have diagnosed myself with rebound headaches. The only way to cure these is to stop taking the medication that is causing them (duh). So that means I am basically going to have a headache until it goes away. Sounds fun, huh? I have one medication that I think is safe and will hopefully prevent them, so we'll see how it goes. Send some positive thoughts my way, guys, okay? I could use some.

** Just to clarify, I was confined to the chair completely by choice. My friend is on crutches, so she called ahead and got a section roped off especially for us so that she could sit comfortably and be able to stretch out her leg. The velvet rope was breached shortly into the set, but the uninvited guests were at least courteous enough to give her a wide berth so she'd be comfortable. Everybody at that show was actually very nice. They've got cool fans. :)

Ok, this was a little disjointed, but I've got work to do and I'm TOTALLY procrastinating. Hey, it's Monday.

moving and movies

Packing for this move is going pretty well, though I still have loads to do. At least I've finished most of the errand-y things like setting up utilities, filling out a change-of-address, reserving a truck, etc. I guess the main thing I have to deal with now is ... STUFF! And I seem to have tons of it. I have packed up and removed boxes and boxes of crap from my bedroom and I still somehow have junk all over the place. How exactly does one person accumulate so much stuff? But whatever. I'm making my way through it, throwing things away as I do, so all is good. I spent the majority of the day Saturday packing (less two long-ish breaks where I watched the second half of The Fellowship of the Ring, and The Day After Tomorrow), and though I had the best of intentions for Sunday, I didn't get a heck of a lot done. I had a leisurely morning, then I went to see a movie with Jillybean, and then we got dinner, but afterwards, I don't know if it was allergies or something, but I just was not feeling up to more packing. But that's okay too, because I have decided to take Friday off work and finish up what I haven't done by then. The movie we saw was excellent, by the way, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes foreign films, and laughing, and a little crying once in a while. It was at the European Union Film Festival at the Gene Siskel Film Center. I'm not sure if or when it will be released here, but maybe on DVD at some point? It's called The Tiger and the Snow, with Roberto Benigni. Supposedly it didn't get very good reviews (personally, I haven't read any), but Jilly and I loved it, so it gets a thumbs-up from me.

now I want pizza

I love my CVS pharmacist. Seriously, I do. He is a shining example of what a pharmacist (or any person working behind any counter anywhere, really) should be. He has consistently been very polite and friendly, and he is knowledgeable about just about everything I ask him. The most recent, and best example of his awesomeness, happened just yesterday. I went in to get a prescription refilled, and also picked up a couple other items. However, I could not find the alcohol pads I was in search of, so I asked the girl behind the pharmacy counter where they might be. She gave me some stock answer of "They should be in First Aid," to which I replied, "I looked there, but only found bottles of alcohol." She had absolutely no response to this. BUT, my favorite pharmacist happened to be in the vicinity, and overheard our conversation, so he asked another employee to grab a box of alcohol pads from the locked cabinet (silly me, not to look there), and hand them to me. Not to mention, he specified the less expensive CVS brand. AND he called me by my first name. SO GREAT!! I went in there a couple times before that and he wasn't there and I was so afraid he didn't work there anymore, but then yesterday I was relieved to find him once again toiling away behind the counter. I think even after I move I will still go to this CVS just 'cause of this guy.

Oh, and ALSO? So totally excited about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie for the dumbest reason ever. The movie itself could suck ass, but I would go see it anyway for sentimental reasons. My little brother and I used to watch the cartoon religiously, and we had the second live-action movie on video, and I think we may have watched it to the point of wearing it out. The best part was Vanilla Ice singing "Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go!" (I don't know if that's the name of the song, but them's the words.)
